NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Herman Law has secured a $4.15 million verdict for a survivor sexually abused as a 13 year old by an art teacher at I.S. 111 Enrico Fermi Junior High School in Brooklyn in 1969. A Kings County jury found the New York City Department of Education fully responsible. The survivor stayed silent for almost 57 years before he told his story to Herman Law for the first time.

The case was hard to build. Decades had passed, and most school records from the 1960s were gone. Herman Law's attorneys and investigators tracked down old yearbooks, found former classmates, and located witnesses. Three other former students testified that the same teacher abused them too, and two said they had reported him to school administrators before this survivor was harmed. That testimony showed the school knew about the danger and failed to protect him.

“Time does not erase the harm caused by childhood sexual abuse, and it should not shield institutions from accountability,” said Jeff Herman, founding attorney of Herman Law. “This verdict shows what is possible when a survivor is finally heard and the evidence is brought to light.”
