MEDIA ADVISORY: Commissioner Buckingham Invites Media to Attend Birthday Celebration for U.S. Army Veteran Turning 102-Years-Old
AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is inviting the media to attend the birthday celebration of Napoleon Gilmore, who is turning 102-years-old on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Mr. Gilmore served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, entering active duty on May 24, 1943, after being inducted in Houston, Texas. He served as a Telephone and Telegraph Lineman and attained the rank of Technician Fourth Grade (TEC 4). Mr. Gilmore served overseas in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific theaters, participating in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. His military decorations included the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. A qualified Sharpshooter with the rifle, Mr. Gilmore completed nearly three years of military service before receiving an honorable discharge on February 18, 1946, at Camp Fannin, Texas.
