USACE breaks ground on new Camp Parks barracks

DUBLIN, Calif. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District joined Army Reserve leaders Sept. 29 to break ground on a new Advanced Skills Trainee Barracks at Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, marking the start of construction on a facility designed to support Soldiers training at the installation.

The 48,000-square-foot barracks will provide modern accommodations for up to 300 Army Reserve, National Guard and Active Component Soldiers during short-term institutional and annual training.

“This project is ultimately about providing Soldiers with the facilities they need to train and accomplish their missions,” said Ryan Larson, chief of the Construction Division for the USACE Sacramento District.

Larson joined Maj. Gen. Windsor S. Buzza, commanding general of the 63rd Readiness Division; Col. Jason R. McKenzie, garrison commander of Fort Hunter Liggett; Lt. Col. Tony S. Ibrahim, garrison commander of Camp Parks; and Command Sgt. Maj. David Oduro-Boafo, Camp Parks garrison command sergeant major, for the ceremonial groundbreaking.

The Sacramento District is managing construction of the project on behalf of the Army Reserve, following planning and design led by the USACE Louisville District. Construction is scheduled for completion in May 2028.

“Breaking ground is an important milestone because it represents the transition from years of planning and design to putting that work into the ground,” Larson said. “Our team looks forward to delivering a quality facility that supports the Army’s training mission here at Camp Parks.”
