Statement from State Sen. Gary Byrne on VP Vance Pledge to Protect Americans from Fraud

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) made the following statement today after signing Vice President JD Vance's Pledge to Protect Americans from Fraud:

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 16, 2026) – "I stand with President Trump and Vice President Vance on fighting fraudsters who threaten to take away benefits from Hoosiers who truly need them.

"That's why I took a stand and supported Senate Enrolled Act 2 (2025) to ensure that Medicaid checks are only going to people that need them, not someone trying to exploit the system to make a quick buck.

"I also firmly believe illegal aliens have no right to receive benefits intended only for legal residents, which is why I co-authored Senate Enrolled Act 1 (2026). This law prevents anyone who cannot verify their legal status from receiving benefits and triggers an immediate referral to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for investigation.

"As your State Senator, it is my job to fight for the people of Senate District 47, and I will keep rooting out fraud and ensuring our government works efficiently and effectively."
